This itinerary is designed for those with less time on their hands who wish to visit the “must see” highlights of Provence. Basically it takes in the Western section of the region where most of the highlights are to be found, leaving out the more rural and lesser known Central and Eastern sections.
The sightseeing can be undertaken by staying in just one hotel, from which a series of day tours can enjoyed. Start with Avignon and its mighty Palace of the Popes, Arles rich in Roman remains, the Roman aqueduct of the Pont du Gard and medieval Les Baux. Follow the story of van Gogh in Provence – his famous “Café at Night” and the asylum in which he languished for a year – and maybe have lunch with a farmer. Visit the glorious Lubéron region, seeing an 11th cent abbey and medieval villages and also elegant Aix en Provence, home to artist Paul Cézanne and renowned for its beauty. Price on application
