In 1947 Picasso spent a year in the castle of Antibes and donated his entire work of paintings and ceramics from that era to the town. After admiring this unique and important collection, continue to the Fernand Léger museum, a lesser known but key artist of the 20th cent regarded as the forerunner of Pop Art. Continue to the fortified medieval citadel of St Paul de Vence, home to artists and filled with galleries and craft shops, and privately visit the stunning collection of masterpieces at La Colombe d’Or (Picasso, Matisse, Bonnard..). In Nice visit the Matisse museum, displaying a collection of artefacts from the artist’s life as well as selected works spanning his career. Finally admire Chagall’s ‘Biblical Message Cycle’, a collection of twelve large canvasses filled with his characteristically vivid symbols and images, which he intended as a hymn to the unity of mankind.
